When is the best time to launch a restaurant in Dubai?

Month-by-month timing guide for Dubai restaurant launches: when the audience is present, when media is cheap, when competition is thin, and the three windows that consistently deliver the strongest first 90 days.

When is the best time to launch a restaurant in Dubai?

Dubai F&B launches are a timing game. The same concept opened in October vs July will have fundamentally different 90-day economics — audience density, media cost per impression, operator bandwidth across the industry, and tourist overlay all swing seasonally. Here's the month-by-month honest guide, with the three windows that consistently work best.

October-November (window 1: the strongest launch window)

The gold standard. Weather turns, summer-traveller residents are back, expat families are settled into the school year, GCC visitor traffic begins ramping, and Dubai's F&B calendar is dense with industry events (Gulfood is still four months away but preview coverage starts here). Meta and Google CPM are moderate, PR outlets are in full editorial swing. This is the window a serious concept should target if operationally ready.

January-February (window 2: the second-best window)

Post-New Year surge, DSF (Dubai Shopping Festival) foot traffic, World Government Summit visitor overlay, Gulfood in February pulling industry attention to Dubai F&B. Weather is excellent for outdoor and rooftop concepts. Media costs are higher than October due to retail campaign bidding, but audience density compensates. Valentine's Day in Feb is also a free media-attention moment for the right concepts.

September (window 3: the honest sleeper window)

Summer officially ends, expats return mid-month, schools start, operator attention isn't yet drawn to Q4 holidays. Media costs are at their lowest point of the year because competing F&B operators haven't ramped marketing yet. The first 10 days of September can be quiet (residents still returning), but weeks 3-4 build fast. Best window for operators who want runway before the October-November opening rush when their competitors are also launching.

March (the fourth-strongest window)

Pre-Ramadan window. Weather still excellent, GCC tourists peaking, the hospitality industry's last major push before Ramadan quiets down the regular dining calendar. Launching here means you capture Ramadan Iftar / Suhoor trade as your first major revenue test, which some concepts love and some can't operationalise. Depends on the concept.

Ramadan (varies: avoid unless concept is Ramadan-native)

Ramadan reshapes the entire Dubai F&B business for one month: restricted daytime operation during fasting hours, Iftar / Suhoor as the primary revenue windows, sensitivity around marketing content. Launching during Ramadan only works for concepts built for it (Iftar buffets, licensed hotels, 24-hour family concepts). For a standard restaurant, Ramadan is the worst time to launch and the best time to prepare operationally for post-Ramadan opening.

April-May (the post-Ramadan window: mixed)

Eid weeks drive a surge, then the city settles into pre-summer rhythm. May specifically becomes challenging as temperatures climb and the first wave of expat families book summer travel. A launch in late April into Eid works; a May launch loses momentum by mid-month.

June-August (avoid unless mandated)

The summer departure window. 30-40% of expat residents leave Dubai for July-August, dine-in trade collapses outside hotel and tourist-dependent outlets, delivery stays moderate but only for established operators, and the F&B industry calendar goes quiet. Launching in summer means burning 8-10 weeks of your early-stage marketing budget against a half-present audience. Only works for tourist-destination concepts (Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Mall, City Walk tourist footfall) and even then at reduced returns.

December (variable: launch-pre-Christmas-week or wait)

First two weeks of December are strong (pre-holiday dining, corporate end-of-year activity, expat families treating Dubai as vacation base). Christmas week itself is complicated: Christian expat traffic drops, GCC tourist traffic rises, licensed outlets peak, dry outlets dip. New Year's Eve is a lightning-strike revenue window but not a launch moment. If launching in December, go hard in weeks 1-2 or wait for January.

The media cost calendar (CPM month by month)

Lowest CPM: June-August (50-70% below annual average), and the second half of September. Highest CPM: October, November, January, February. November specifically sees Meta CPM spike 30-50% above annual average because of Black Friday / holiday-shopping bidding. A September launch benefits from cheap media; an October launch pays premium media prices but accesses peak audience density.

The 90-day launch marketing playbook (regardless of month)

Pre-launch (weeks -8 to -4): brand presence online, Google Business Profile listed, teaser content on Instagram, soft-launch invite list built. Soft launch (weeks -3 to -1): 25-45 industry and lifestyle media / food creators invited to private preview nights. Public opening (weeks 1-4): full media activation across Meta + Google + TikTok + Snap, review-generation push, trade press placement, first delivery platform listing optimisation. Months 2-3: measure what's working, double down, kill what isn't.

The honest bottom line

If operationally ready: launch October 15-November 15. If you need more runway: launch late August or early-mid September. If the window has passed for the year: launch mid-January through mid-February. Everything else is a compromise driven by operational or financial reality, not by what's best for the opening.
